James Dearlove is a British painter based in Cornwall. He studied at the Slade School of Art, London, and Turps Art School.
His work has been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including presentations at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Discerning Eye Exhibition, the Saatchi Gallery, and London Art Fair. His paintings are held in both private and public collections.
In 2021, Dearlove was awarded the Ingram Prize. That same year, he presented his first solo exhibition, The Garden Room, at Nine Elms Gallery, London.
He was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2023, with exhibitions at the Grundy Art Gallery, Liverpool, and Camden Art Centre, London. In the same year, he presented his second solo exhibition, Tales of the City, Tales of the Sea, with BWG Gallery, London, and undertook a residency at Colstoun House, Scotland.
Recent projects include a solo presentation in the Platform section of London Art Fair (2024), curated by Gemma Rolls-Bentley; participation in the group exhibition Pourquoi London (Canopy Collections and Gertrude Art); and residencies at Cyprus College of Art (Erasmus-funded) and Clover Mill, Netherlands.
In 2025, Dearlove presented his solo exhibition The Trilling Wire at Galerie PCP, Paris, in collaboration with Gertrude Art, which received critical attention including a review in Fetch London. He has also exhibited in group exhibitions including Earthly Bodies of Then, Now and When (BWG Gallery) and Mythic Manifest (Love Waxes Cold).
In 2026, he is included in the group exhibition Ancient Modern (Brooke Benington and Gertrude Art) and features in the launch episode of Season Three of the Brave Projects Podcast.
